Paralegal Profession And Education
By Francis Michael of Ugbakiri Ventures
^ Paralegal Education And Profession X-rayed For You Most people who are today interested in the Paralegal profession would not have touched it with a long pole if it did not improve from the level of common lawyers' clerks, who typed and filled documents in law offices, into what it is today. The Paralegal is today a well respected profession of properly educated individuals who are at home with legal duties in the same par with lawyers except standing in the law court for clients. Unlike in the beginning times of the Paralegal profession when only law firms seemed to have need for the services of Paralegals, these days government agencies as well as NGOs, companies, Insurance and Banks in this economy employ Paralegals, whose wages are lower than those of attorneys, to carry out legal research, do legal documentations, interview or give legal advice to clients and generally take care of an organization's legal interest working through its legal department to assist the public while making sure that the company or organization does not act outside the law. Let it be clear to you that you need the right legal training from an institution or college approved by the American Bar Association, it does not matter whether it is off line or online, all you need is to be well trained to qualify as a Paralegal from a duly accredited institution so that you can without difficulties handle legal duties in a law firm, in a bank's legal department, the legal department of an agency of government, in the judiciary or any other place where the need for your services exit. However, you must possess a bachelor degree, which is the entry level qualification for admission of fresh Paralegal students into an approved Paralegal institution before you can think of going to seek admission for Paralegal studies, which if you pass you get a certification to practice as a general Paralegal or go further to study a branch of law that will make you a specialist Paralegal, for example, Police Paralegal, Military Paralegal, Medical Paralegal etc. Finally, you have to be very careful when choosing a Paralegal training institution, because a lot of the online or even off line schools advertising for admission for the training of Paralegals have not the requisite accreditation and American Bar Association curriculum necessary for training Paralegals in this country, so my advise is to enroll only in a properly accredited online or offline school - you can find lots of them through articles like this one or Google for "Standing Committee on Paralegals Directory".
